Regular and punctual attendance is essential in promoting school as fundamentally important.
The early acquisition of good habits may well help children in later life (both in secondary education and employment). Home and school can work together to ensure children feel safe and secure about coming to school and know the routines clearly.
- The registers are taken at 9.00 and 1.15pm.
- Your child should arrive between 8.50 and 9.00am when there will be a member of staff on duty in the playground and at the school gate.
- Do plan towards allowing your child to be independent and help them learn to walk from the school gate on their own as soon as they can.
- If your child is late it will be recorded in a book by the secretary – this is the Local Authority’s policy.
- Our Education Welfare Officer can support the school and families when/ if they need help.
- At home time parents may come into the playground at 3.30pm to wait for their child.
- School finishes at 3.30pm
How we can help you:
- By encouraging regular and punctual attendance.
- By ensuring the school has a consistent approach to arrangements, procedures and routines.
Our school Attendance Policy aims to be clear about:
- Parents’ responsibilities
- What constitutes an authorised or unauthorised absence
- The start and end times of the day
- What to do if your child is ill or you want to go on holiday during term time.
Children do not enjoy being late for school and may need your help to avoid this.
Holidays
The Local Authority’s Policy is that parents may ask for up to 10 days absence in any one academic year (September – July) - they cannot expect it by right - it must be agreed by the school and you need to fill in a holiday form before you go. Schools can no longer authorise holidays during Term 1 (September and October) when pupils are settling into their academic year and Term 5(April/May) when national assessments take place.
- Holiday forms to request absence are available at the school office
- The school can not authorise holiday for Y6 pupils during KS2 SATs week
- That school is important and that is the message that we want our pupils to learn – it will stay with them throughout their school life
- Our school policies encompass all aspects of school life and help to ensure that school is a pleasant place to be where children can learn
If you would like to talk to your child’s teacher then after school is the best time to do this, although they may have meetings to attend and other school commitments. If you need more time then telephone to make a longer appointment.
How you can help us:
- Try to make medical appointments after school or in the holidays whenever possible.
- Support the school’s policies – especially Behaviour and Homework.
- Value education and the work of all the staff in school.
- Make sure your child has everything they need for school each day.
- Telephone us when your child is ill on the first morning of absence.
- Arrange for them to arrive and be collected on time each day.
- Do not use the staff car park unless you need accessible parking and please park considerately on roads near the school.
